Boyne Rivers Trust (BRT) is an environmental charity to the conservation and protection of the Boyne River catchment. The vision of the Trust is for a ​‘Thriving River Catchment, valued and protected by its communities’. The aim of the trust is to protect, enhance and restore the water bodies of the Boyne catchment through community-led projects and activities. Job Summary The Farm Advisor will work with farmers, across the Boyne catchment, to identify potential changes in agricultural and land management practices, intended to bring about improved water quality and freshwater habitats at a catchment-scale, whilst also benefiting farm businesses. The post-holder will undertake one-to-one farm visits, working with landowners to identify ways to reduce the risk and impact of diffuse and point-source water pollution from agriculture. This will be done through non-regulatory farmyard and field assessments to identify possible water protection measures and the production of bespoke farm water management plans. The Farm Advisor will also aim to raise awareness, improve understanding and acceptance amongst farmers and land managers of diffuse and point-source pollution from agriculture and its impact on water quality and the wider water environment. Engagement with farmers in the Boyne catchment will seek to create, through a voluntary approach, a sense of ownership and achievement within the farming community in relation to improving water quality and water dependent species and habitats in the catchments across the Boyne Rivers Trust’s operational area. The Lune Rivers Trust is a small but ambitious environmental charity dedicated to the protection and enhancement of all the rivers and tributaries in the Lune catchment. We cover a large area, from Tebay in the north, to Ingleton in the east and Pilling in the south. We have secured funding from the Environment Agency, United Utilities, Wyre Council, and RSPB Cumbria Connect to support our ongoing farmer engagement activities.A recent staff departure has left a gap in LRT’s delivery capacity to provide farm advice and farmer engagement. Our experience over the last 6 years has proven the benefits of farmer engagement and particularly our approach to it. We believe that there are considerable opportunities to continue to develop our farmer engagement programme and secure additional funding. We are seizing this as an opportunity to step up our capabilities and are seeking a Farm Advisor to join our team. We are open to considering candidates across a range of levels of experience so are advertising this role as a Farm Advisor/​Senior Farm Advisor. For context, a Farm Advisor could be someone just starting out on their career, perhaps coming from a farming background and recently graduated in an environmental subject. A Senior Farm Advisor would typically be professionally qualified (e.g. FACTS) and have several years of experience delivering high quality farm advice.The duties and responsibilities will be tailored to the successful candidate. A Farm Advisor would work closely with other members of the team, to learn how the Trust operates and to develop their skills and knowledge in delivering farm advice. Through improved access, inclusive engagement, and shared learning, the project will enhance local wellbeing, deepen understanding of the natural environment, and foster lasting stewardship of the Tees landscapeWorking closely with the Your Tees Catchment Partnership (YTCP), the Tees Rivers Trust (host for this position) and many additional stakeholders, your role will be to lead, inspire and develop a coherent narrative for a catchment-based Living Tees Project. OverviewThe YTCP have an opportunity to develop a meaningful blue and green corridor project within the Tees catchment, using the river (and key tributaries) as well as the Teesdale Way as linear reference points through which to develop opportunities for change, across a number of themes. This 18-month position has been made possible through the Northumbrian Water Bluespaces ​“Feasibility Project for Water Environment Improvements” grant, being awarded to the YTCP.This funding being awarded to the YTCP will provide a unique opportunity to further consolidate, refine and consult with stakeholders as ideas and proposals become more grounded within a clearer and robust project narrative.This is a ground-breaking opportunity to facilitate a project of lasting significance for the River Tees and those who walk and access it through many and varied leisure activities, visit and holiday within the catchment or work and live within its many communities and tributaries.The entire project sits under the Catchment Based Approach (CaBA) framework.This initial and early development and feasibility phase allows for the YTCP to focus time and resource in developing key themes through a more well-defined and robust project narrative. Much has already been achieved in developing ideas and concepts and there is an appetite within the YTCP for this project to gain traction and support local change. Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust (YDRT) is dedicated to the conservation and restoration of rivers and their catchments within the YDRT catchment area. We work collaboratively with local communities and action groups, national parks, and various environmental organisations to deliver impactful projects that restore our rivers, enhance biodiversity, improve water quality, and increase resilience to climate change.This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Catchment Manager for someone who wishes to make a real difference to the water quality and habitat of rivers in the Yorkshire Dales. You will play a crucial role in planning and developing a pipeline of projects and initiatives that will improve the catchment of the River Ure. The successful candidate will work with farmers, contractors, partner organisations, volunteers and other Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust staff to plan, develop, and monitor the delivery of land management and river restoration projects which aim to ensure our rivers thrive.The responsibilities of the role encompasses working with partners and stakeholders to develop a programme of projects and initiatives in the Ure catchment, securing funding from a variety of sources including corporates. We are interested in candidates with existing knowledge and experience in this area of work in order to build on and expand the Trusts’ capability and capacity.The role will involve working closely with our Senior Catchment Partnership Manager, the Catchment Partnership Manager for the Wharfe and Catchment Partnership members (Dales to Vale Rivers Network (DVRN)) and a wide range of other stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve the catchment of the River Ure, in line with the Catchment Management Plan.The Catchment Manager will look for opportunities to maximise the impact of projects and efficiencies through collaborative working. The candidate will therefore need to be comfortable working with (for example), other YDRT staff, NGO’s, government organisations, corporates, local communities, landowners and volunteers. The individual in this position must be at ease handling data regarding the project’s costs and benefits and effectively communicating this information to a range of audiences.They will work closely with other Trust staff to raise awareness of the ecological importance of river habitats, to promote good farming practice and to promote the projects. The Catchment Manager will also oversee the Trust’s data management. Tasks will include:Overseeing the management of catchment data in the TrustDeveloping knowledge of data across each catchment,Providing information for partners and anyone interested in the characteristics, projects, initiatives and problems, including the use of data and evidence to support project developmentOverseeing the data gathered and held by the Trust, Identifying which data is needed to underpin project ideas and development whilst ensuring the Trust is GDPR compliantThe role will link in with neighbouring catchment partnerships around how other Catchment Partnerships and communities of practices in the rivers trust movement are using data to inform and shape deliveryProjects may typically include investigations into water quality, working with farmers and stakeholders to identify pollution sources, ways to reduce diffuse and point pollution and works to improve river habitat, along with wetland creation and river re-naturalisation.
